The Crown of Thorns Broke the Power of Poverty! (Gen 3:17 -19 NKJV) “Then to Adam He said, ‘Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it:’ Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you [...]
The Crown of Thorns Broke the Power of Poverty!
(Gen 3:17 -19 NKJV) “Then to Adam He said, ‘Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it:’ Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”
Adam listened to the voice of his wife and it was poverty. Jesus rebuked the apostles, when He appeared to them as risen from the dead, for not believing the women. What this says is that nothing with God is an issue of gender. “In Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, male nor female . . .” We are always looking for the voice of God and not the voice of man!
Adam was cursed to work and eat dirt because He knew the voice of God but did not heed it. He listened to the voice of man instead. Poverty was the outcome.
“Thorns and thistles” are a type, or figurative language for/and, of poverty.
The second Adam, Jesus Christ, came and paid the price for what the first Adam did in his disobedience. The second Adam was obedient. He obeyed the voice of His Father God. The thorns were the sign of the curse of poverty, and he was told that he would eat the dirt.
(Mat 27:27 – 30 NKJV) “Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him. And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’ Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head.”
This second Adam took the “Crown Of Thorns” to pay the price for the sins of the first Adam so that whoever would believe on Jesus Christ would have His prosperity. No more eating dirt! Now our faith is accounted for and not our labors.
As a type of Christ, Abraham was told to sacrifice his only son, Isaac.
But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father . . . look, here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, ‘My son, God will provide for Himself the Lamb for a burnt offering.’” – (Gen 22:7& 8 NKJV)
These were eternal words, which Abraham spoke. Jesus was/is that “Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world!” He is the “Ram caught in the thicket.” The “thicket” or “thorn bush” was, again, the sign of the rule of this poverty over the mind. Here is God’s providence with its head caught in the thorns and thistles. This was a sign of the coming Lamb – Who is Jesus Christ – Who would take the curse of poverty from the minds and hearts of those who believe in Him. BIG Plan!
Abraham called the name of the place, Jehovah-Jireh: The Lord Provides! The crown of thorns was the poverty of the first Adam taken by Jesus, so that whoever would believe on Him would have His wealth. By that Lamb of God that was caught in the thicket of a crown of thorns, God provides for every believer in Him!
Believe Him. Lord, open the eyes of our hearts so that we can see what Jesus has done for us. He has broken the power of poverty, sickness and sin. We will not get what we deserve. We will receive what Jesus deserved, instead! Abundant life!
