Have you ever taken the time to do what Jesus says about considering the birds? I mean really consider them? Especially in times when you are in financial need?
(Mat 6:25 –33 NKJV) “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”
Usually, we are too busy worrying about the fix that we are in to stop and put our trust in God and His providing hand. However, Jesus reveals to us a way of having every need met in our lives. If our faith is in Him as our supply and not our own abilities, we can at any time; stop, set our minds on how God supplies even the birds, and rejoice in the fact that He will much more supply us in our time of need.
Many times I have sat and watched a bird and realized the many ways that that bird is supplied its food. At our Idahome we have a few doves that come to our garden each morning. The reason that they come is because we feed them. They do not know us by any means, and yet, because of the Lord in us, they are fed. They are always on watch for any cats. They are easily scared away by a rustle of any kind. Yet, they return each day to the same spot where we put the birdseed. Those birds don’t know anything about their provision except that they are provided for.
Now another principle that Jesus gives us here is that birds get this care without sowing or reaping. We can sow. We can reap. They cannot sow and are cared for. The fact that we can sow and reap means all the more abundance to us.
There is a miracle in this “consideration” that is given unto the birds. It is pointed to a loving God and Father Who will never leave us out in the cold. He will always rescue us in our time of need. The miracle begins to take form when we stop what we are doing and start our “considering.” This reverses the effects of our “considering” the evil things that will take place when our supply does not come in!
If you can’t get rid of the sick feeling that is in your stomach because of your worry that there will not be enough, then take some time off and go check out some birds. Go somewhere that no one can see you and sit and watch some birds. Then, at the appropriate moment, stretch your arms out like wings and pretend that you are soaring with those birds. And remember how you have both sown and reaped and how you will continue to do so. Converse with a couple of birds and let them know that, “I know that my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus!”
Stuff your hands into your empty pockets and go home and see God move! (But don’t tell anybody that you were talking to the birds.)
“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your Heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Here again is the same principle given to us concerning our clothing. Either physical clothing or spiritual clothing, it doesn’t matter. Irene taught me how to “smell the roses.” I notice flowers now. I use to do the “guy thing” and never see a single flower, even though I was walking on them. Now I see them and think of her and I think of how Jesus gave me the eyes to see that the Father has clothed the flowers Himself.
The miracle in this is when I need to get a new suit, or tie, or shoes, or something. I like to go looking at flowers. I think about the Father’s opinion of how things ought to look and let Him supply my clothing. It always happens that either I find what I like and have the money to buy it, or someone comes along with a gift of love and hangs a new set of threads on me. It is the coolest thing to think about and I’m positive that the Lord gets a big kick out of it.
Now I pray that the eyes of your understanding will be opened to see that you are in the best place that you’ve ever been in your entire life: In the hands of the loving Savior! He’ll put your tax money in a fish. Go fishing. He placed the vision of providing in the neighbors rose garden. Go take a smell. If the neighbor asks what you are doing, just tell him that you are admiring his roses. The neighbor will be blessed. You will be blessed. God will be blessed.
