A Case of New Wine
Thirty years ago, something miraculous happened in Bethlehem, of Judea, and Jerusalem.
The story that most every Jew knows is now old and tangled with fables. But that was long ago, and you don’t know anyone who might have been there, and it really doesn’t seem to matter.
Today is going to be fun-filled. You are attending the wedding feast and celebration of close friends in Cana of Galilee. The gathering of friends and families, the frivolities, the heartwarming foods, and the wine ignite memories and excitement and joy to your heart.
The fun begins, and the conversations are joy-filled. The food deliciously excites the palate while the wine gives forth the flavors of the Judean soils and sun with the meticulously cared-for vineyards. But none of this can match the loving conversations and the joy of being together will family and friends – too rarely seen.
While at the table with family and friends, the stories, reports, jesting, and laughter, they bring another round of wine for everyone. You lift the cup to your lips as you have so many times before. You say, with all the participants at the table, “Blessed are You, Master of the universe! For You have given unto us the fruit of the vine!”
The clunking sound of the cups brings the feeling of unity to the air that surrounds you. The cup you put to your lips is the same, but the wine fragrance is distinctly dissimilar to the wine served before. You appraise the taste. Something tastes different about this wine. What is that taste?
It is the fragrance and flavor of heaven.
There is no way that you could possibly know it, but no earthly vineyard produced this wine. To what could the fragrance and flavor be compared? It is truly incomparable. What grape – what vineyard – what wine master – could have produced such a delectable drink?
Have you ever considered what that new wine taste was like when Yeshua turned the water into wine? It wasn’t produced from any earthly vineyard. And it was not aged or treated by even the best winemaker on the planet from any age.
In fact, it was only minutes ago that it came into being. It was the fruit of the Vine. But, He is the vine from which this wine came. It was from Him – His Presence. Later, He told His disciples, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.” {John 15:1 -,ESV}
It is essential to note that the miracle ministry of Yeshua, the Son of the living Elohim, began at a wedding feast. The lack of wine gave the emergence of the miracle ministry of the Son of righteousness, for, “This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.”
The intended new wine gave the hearts of those at the wedding feast the gladdened heart of God’s promises. “You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine and bread to strengthen man’s heart.” {Psalms 104:14-15 – ESV}
Let us consider that “new wine” is the beginning of something new. A new day is on our horizon. “Elijah said to Ahab, ‘Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.'” {1 Kings 18:41}
I think I hear the sound of the abundance of rain. There is a move of God that is coming to the earth. Rejoice & be glad!
“The righteous are glad. They shout for joy before Elohim! They exult with gladness. Sing to Elohim, sing praise to His name. Lift up a song for Him who rides in the deserts, by His name Yehovah! Exult in His presence. In His holy dwelling Elohim is a father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows. Elohim causes the lonely to live at home, He brings out those who are bound with chains, while the rebellious dwell in a dry land.” {Psalms 68:3-6}
“When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine,
and did not know where it came from
(but the servants who had drawn the water knew),
the master of the feast called the bridegroom.
And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine,
and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior.
You have kept the good wine until now!”
This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.” – {John 2:9-11 – NKJV}
“This accomplished His beginning, of the signs (miracle wonders), Jesus did in Cana of Galilee and manifested the His glory and His disciples believed, in Him.” {John 2:11 – WCA}
